Institut Foton – Optical Functions for Information Technologies – is a joint research unit (UMR 6082) affiliated with CNRS, University of Rennes, and INSA Rennes. Institut Foton conducts research in advanced photonics from materials to systems, bridging fundamental science and applied technologies including photonics concepts for quantum technologies. It gathers about 130 members, including faculty, researchers, engineers, technical staff, and PhD students and is based on two main sites: Rennes and Lannion. It is structured into three departments (DOP, SP and OHM) and hosts three platforms among which two technological platforms member of of the Renatech+ which brings together national academic resources in micro- and nanotechnologies.
The research conducted within Institut Foton addresses three strategic axes (i) Photonic Sensors, (ii) Microwave photonics and Optical Communications and, (iii) Photo-generation and Energy Storage, which are regional as well as European priorities defined within the Key Enabling Technologies.
The contributors involved in SpinDataCom are member of DOP department whose research activities cover low-noise lasers, dual-frequency lasers, spin lasers, microwave photonics, terahertz metrology, optoelectronic oscillators, interferometric sensors, advanced imaging, lidar, frequency combs, fiber sensors and optically controlled antenna. The specificity of DOP department is to address fundamental problems in photonics and push them, when possible, up to instrumental development and/or prototyping with the help of a multi-skilled technical workshop (optics, electronics, opto-electronics, opto-mechanics) hosted in the department.
